FUT Hair Transplantation

Follicular unit strip harvesting hair transplantation has long been the "Gold Standard" for surgical hair restoration. It is still the most efficient method for harvesting a large amount of hair to transplant in a given session.

With strip harvesting a long narrow strip is typically taken horizontally across the back of the scalp. Once Dr. Pawlinga has removed the hair bearing tissue he begins the closure of the donor using a trichophytic closure that minimizes and visible scarring*.

While Dr. Pawlinga is closing the incision the medical technicians are dissecting the naturally occurring folicular units under magnification with binocular microscopes. These grouping can typically range from 1 to 4 hairs per graft.

Dr. Pawlinga will then prepare each graft site by making a tiny needle size incision. Then together with the medical team they will transplant the grafts to the appropriate recipient sites using the small one and two hair grafts along the hairline and larger grafts for supporting density.
