FUE Hair Transplant
Follicular Unit Extraction or Follicular Unit Excision is a hair graft harvesting technique that has gained popularity over the past 10-15 years.
FUE harvesting entails the hair surgeon extracting individual follicular units. The incisions as 1mm or less add when they heal the incision is virtually invisible even when the hair is shaved*.
FUE is particularly popular with younger men who prefer to keep their hair short in the back.
The Pros of FUE hair transplantation are the elimination of the linear donor scar and more comfortable and quicker healing*. The rest of the transplant procedure is the same with either FUE or FUT.
The Cons for FUE are that the procedure typically takes longer and due to repetitiveness and fatigue there may be more graft transection since the follicular units are directly excised versus being separated under microscopic disection.
Dr. Pawlinga performs manual FUE in his Schnectady, NY office and offers the ARTAS Robotic Hair Transplant System in New York City.
